Priorities

Building a stronger Democratic party in Montgomery County

Expanding Voter Education

The truth is, many of us are overwhelmed at the polling place when we see all the different positions we are voting for. We stay focused on the top of the ballot but oftentimes don't realize the impact of the offices at the bottom of the ballot. It's critically important that we support voters and educate residents on what these positions are and how they impact our day-to-day lives.  That's why we need to:

  • Bring candidates to where voters are through webinars, coffee shop meet and greets, and community organization visits.

  • Create mailers and literature on what positions are and how they impact our residents.

  • Translate voter and voting information into multiple languages to support multilingual and underrepresented communities.

Propelling Youth Engagement

The youth is the future of our party and we must ensure that we create a strong pipeline of future Democratic leaders by supporting their advocacy efforts now. Our youth also have vast amounts of energy that we should utilize to ensure our party's tent is larger and more active. When elected, I'll help make sure we:

  • Partner with local high school Democratic clubs to register, educate, and expand the Democratic voter base.

  • Create a unified Youth Democrat Corps to organize Democratic voters while creating a pipeline for a strong party.

  • Provide more opportunities to high school and college students to see government in action through externships, internships, and classroom visits.

Increasing Voter Turnout

In a strong Blue county, it's easy to get complacent in the primaries and midterms, yet these elections are incredibly important. When we look at the data, we see that primary races often have a lower turnout than the general elections, which is often common across the country. However, in Montgomery County, the primary races are immensely important in determining our elected officials. Increasing voter turnout comes as a result of focusing on the other priorities in addition to making sure we:

  • Collaborate with senior centers, Montgomery College, and group homes to encourage their residents and students to register and vote.

  • Expand multilingual voter services to reach more diverse communities.

Supporting Democratic Organizing

The Democratic Party of our county needs to be present and supportive of residents on and off the ballot. It's the most basic form of public service we can offer and one that we must be stronger with doing. This means dedicating the resources and time to our precinct officials and club leaders. By creating a unified and streamlined organizing effort, we become more cohesive and effective. To do this, we'll need to:

  • Join forces with local democratic chapters and caucuses to create a more streamlined approach to organizing.

  • Support the community throughout the year, not just in election years by organizing volunteer drives and efforts across the county on a more frequent basis.

"In order to best support Democratic voters, we must bring a sense of renewal; a sense of urgency."
